I have both the "Avia" and "Pioneer Home Theater Reference." If you have the money, why not get both

On limited budget, I would still recommend you to get the Avia. Avia's got tons of test for audio purpose. It also has a lot of detailed information on how you are suppose to use the test. A sound meter is definitely needed in majority of these tests. And since Avia also comes with video tests, you can consider them as a bonus, in addition to what you can get from the audio test.
