華萊士7月染疫後在醫院住了近1個月，靠呼吸器煎熬了數週之後，因併發症去世。

正懷著第4個孩子的妻子潔西卡（Jessica Wallace）稱，華萊士太頑固了，
他不想去看醫生，因為他不想成為COVID-19檢測統計數據的一部分。

她表示，華萊士於7月26日出現症狀，但拒絕接受檢測或到醫院，而是尋求未經證實的家庭療法來對抗病毒，
包括服用高劑量的維生素C、阿斯匹靈等， 也曾自行服用動物驅蟲藥「伊維菌素」（ivermectin），
而衛生官員一再敦促人們不要服用這種動物用藥來治療COVID-19。
