Making his third start of the season, Wang combined with three pitchers on a three-hitter to lead the Nationals to a 3-1 victory Tuesday night over the Cubs. Michael Morse hit a mammoth solo home run and Jonny Gomes added a two-run blast, both in the sixth inning, to power Washington.

Starlin Castro spoiled the Nationals' shutout bid with his sixth home run with two outs in the eighth off Tyler Clippard. The Cubs now have hit 16 homers in a season-high seven straight games, and Castro, the National League hits leader at 151, extended his hitting streak to nine games.

It was Wang's best outing in his comeback from shoulder surgery. He did hit a batter with one out in the second, walked Geovany Soto with one out in the third and also walked Carlos Pena with two outs in the fourth. Wang (1-2) got a huge assist from shortstop Ian Desmond, who was able to grab Tyler Colvin's hard-hit grounder up the middle and throw in time to first for the second out in the fifth.
