其實也要看當地的硬幣條例, 以香港為例, 根據香港法例454章《硬幣條例》第二條列明，以元作單位硬幣（1元、2元、5元及10元）付款上限為100元；以角作單位硬幣（1角、2角、5角）付款上限為2元, 香港的這些法例當年都是援引英國相似的法例, 超過這個規定的, 商戶有權拒收, 所以美國有沒有類似的法例很難說。  |

舉例來說, 公車可以說不收penny和大鈔
