how so?
i thought the ending was quite appropriate, refreshing and a true reflection of life. it's the very ending that makes this movie outstanding.
if the two ended up being together and lived happily afterwards i would've thought the ending was corny.
btw i totally can relate to clooney's character although i don't fly as often as him at all. and i can understand what the director was trying to say.
a deep and excellent movie overall.

Well, I just can't agree with you more...
You can see Clooney in the end of the movie. He dragged his baggage walk to the front of flight timetable, release the handhold, uncertainty is on his face...
He may lost the connection with the woman he loved, but I think he really have the connection with his little ex-colleague and his family in the process. (Sometimes you lost and sometimes you acquire.)
He is still back to the air, the place which he lived...
He says:The stars will wheel forth from their daytime hiding places. And one of those lights, slightly brighter than the rest, will be my wing tip passing over.
How poetic, isn't it?
