Dell D500 and BenQ J5000 are almost the same in terms of spec. Both put their HDD in the left side of the touch-pad. If you choose a HDD larger than 30GB, your let hand can feel warm for both NBs. The 20/30GB HDD speed is 4200 rpm but the 40GB is 5400 rpm.

J5000 is heavier but a brighter LCD. The brighter LCD may result in more battery power consumption.

D500 offeres 1-yr on-site after servcie and cover most Asia-paficic countries.
I am not sure the afterservice by J5000.
