some motherboard problems
 

recently, i got a Epox 8KTA3 Pro, and i boot up with that mobo, i got error message saying i am missing vmm32.vxd, sometimes i got lucky and booted into windows, and after 30 seconds, a blue screen popped out saying cmdninst is performing illegal operation, does anyone know what happened here? One more question, if i got a raid mainboard and i am not using it, do i have to configure something in bios or leave the way it is? (I only have one HDD). should i attach HDD to raid ide or regular ide?

Please give more information such as OS.

I think its a memory problem.

I suggest you check your memory module.
Maybe memory can not suit.

i have windows 98,

1.Please you change the other memory to test.
2.The win98 can only install to 512MB memory(max).

Is IDE 1 always for HDD and IDE 2 always for CD ROMS and DVDs? i am kind of new in this area (build a new computer), what will u do if the bios cannot detect one of your HDD or one of your CD ROM or DVDs?

Besides your bios settings,you need check your harddisk and cd-rom jumper settings.It is not a fixed rules to connect those IDE devices.But you must remember 1 master with 1 slave.It doesn't set the jumper to "cable select".It can cause more unstable status.If you ask me how to detect the hd & dvd-rom.The harddisk connect the ide0,the dvd-rom with cd-rom connect on ide1.(advice,it can get better system performance).

vmm32.vxd is a virtual device driver in system.
I suggest you reinstall your os that is WIN98.
