原來隔天(7/9) NV 就出來否認, 不過我也是剛剛才看到。

Nvidia denies terminating alliance with VIA

Following yesterday’s rumours about a nefarious bargain with Intel to terminate its relationship with VIA, Nvidia claims that everything with VIA is still cosy

It looked as though Nvidia and VIA’s relationship had crumbled yesterday, as DigiTimes reported that Nvidia used its alliance with VIA ‘as a bargaining chip to negotiate with Intel.’ The basis of the bargain, according to DigiTimes, was that if Intel allowed Nvidia to produce an integrated graphics chipset for Intel’s Atom CPU, then Nvidia would ‘terminate its alliance with VIA.’

In its story, DigiTimes says that Nvidia refused to comment on the rumour, but Nvidia has confirmed to Custom PC that there’s no truth in it. Nvidia’s product PR manager for Northern Europe, Ben Berraondo, told Custom PC that ‘what’s been written is false,’ adding that ‘Nvidia is CPU agnostic, and we’ll happily work with all CPU manufacturers, including Intel, AMD and ARM. We’re very much still working with VIA as well.’

Berraondo explained the strategy, saying that ‘In the end, our goal is to provide world class GPU support for all users, regardless of their CPU.’ Nvidia and Intel might be having a bit of a war of words at the moment, but Intel is still happily licensing Nvidia to make chipsets for its CPUs, and it’s likely that it would allow Nvidia to make one for Atom as well.

VIA is one of the last companies left with an x86 license, and many have speculated that an alliance between Nvidia and VIA could potentially take on the increasing threat from Intel as it looks to develop graphics chips as well as CPUs.
